- If the user has not yet agreed to Adobe's Software License Agreement after installing Acrobat, it now appears in front of the Director movie or Projector. Users must agree to the license agreement before they can use Acrobat, and therefore INM PDF Xtra
- [Windows] Unchecking the "Show Toolbar" setting should now remove the toolbar in all cases
- [Windows] Acrobat software detection has been improved.
If you have installed a previous version of Acrobat/Reader (ex: Exchange 3.x or Reader 3.x), PDF_AcrobatInfo() always returns those versions. If you have Acrobat/Reader 4.x, PDF_AcrobatInfo() returns results only if they can be used by INM PDF Xtra
- [Windows] A problem has been fixed in which, under certain circumstances, while authoring in Director switching between "Any Reader" and "Acrobat" settings may cause the error: "Acrobat not properly installed", when you start playing a movie
- [Macintosh] Fixed a redraw problem when the sprite is moved outside the stage.
- [Macintosh] Fixed a crashing problem in certain situations, when PDF sprite displays the "not registered" dialog
- Version 1.0 accepted absolute pathnames with the Relative to movie and Relative to playback engine options. Now, it tries to resolve the user's supplied path
- On Windows, if Acrobat Reader must have been launched off a CD-ROM, version 1.0 wrongfully reported "Acrobat not found" on slow PCs. Now it waits longer for the Reader process to start
- The Relative to movie option cannot be used if the movie is not saved
- More accurate alerts and error messages
- The default size for new PDF Xtra sprites is down to 280x360 pixels
- The default zoom value is now Fit Visible (resizes the PDF document to fill the entire sprite)
- The URL option is now supported by Acrobat/Windows
- Compatible with Director 8
There is a new version of the documentation for PDF Xtra 1.0 to coincide with this release. Here are some of the changes:
- Many clarifications and updates to the text, including items related to the issues in this Release Note
- The PDF_Open() method's #zoom parameter default setting has been corrected to fitVisible
- Previous versions of the documentation stated that PDF_FindText() is compatible with the Mac version of INM PDF Xtra, but it is not
- If you use the Auto-Installation feature in Shockwave, you must update your "xtrainfo.txt" file in the Director folder with the text supplied in the manual
The following are known issues with the current version of the PDF Xtra. In every case, we are working to try and resolve the issues under our control:
- If your project is running Acrobat Reader from CD-ROM, you MUST use the US English version of Acrobat Reader (4.x)
- If Acrobat Exchange 3.x (or/and Reader 3.x) has been installed on a user's computer and is running, the PDF Xtra may not run properly even if Acrobat 4.0 and/or Reader 4.0 is properly installed. Acrobat 3 must be completely removed to resolve this situation
- Embedded QuickTime: If you have an embedded QuickTime movie in your PDF document, it will only work properly if the QuickTime movie is read from an HTTP source
- [Windows] When a PDF Xtra sprite doesn't have a PDF document opened, the sprite is not properly refreshed. A workaround for this problem is to initialize the sprite outside the stage
- [Windows 98] Second Edition only: Under certain conditions, PDF_Print() may not work. This is a known issue, but the exact reproducible circumstances are still not clear. A workaround for this problem seems to be to re-install the user's printer driver
- [Windows 98] If your project issues a PDF_Open() and then a PDF_Print() inside the same handler, Acrobat may not have enough time to initialize. In these cases, no printing will occur. A workaround for this problem is to issue a PDF_Open() in another handler, or put the PDF object in an off-stage sprite and then issue the PDF_Print() from a handler
- [Macintosh] You may have scrolling problems if you have a scrollable Field or Text member on the stage at the same time as a PDF sprite
- [Macintosh] You can only have one PDF sprite on the same Frame in the Score at any given time
- [Macintosh] Although we have tried very hard to support Shockwave playback utilizing INM PDF Xtra, numerous issues are preventing us from accomplishing a reliable solution in this area. Support for this functionality has been dropped in the PDF Xtra. We are determined to ensure that it is stable on all browser platforms on the Mac before we recommend this solution
